The Department of Economics started functioning with the establishment of Bundelkhand College, Jhansi in 1949 . Dr. C P Saxena was the first Head of the Department . The department has had a good fortune of being shaped and developed under the Headship of academicians like Dr. S P Mathur, Dr D D Gupta , Dr D K Verma, Dr Renu Mathur and Dr S K Yadav . Besides these academic luminaries, the department  consisted of many great teachers and scholars like Dr Shri Ram Aggarwal, Dr Manju Dhingra etc.

The department supports the Undergraduate and postgraduate programs (B A from 1949 and M A from 1960 and PhD ) in Economics, which draw a huge number of applicants from all over the Bundelkhand region.

Alongside classroom teaching, the department encourages students to engage in seminars, discussions, academic & industry visits and project based learning to develop analytical and research aptitude. With its strong grounding in both traditional  pedagogy and contemporary approaches, the department continues to produce scholars who contribute significantly to academics, civil services, social work, and other professional spheres.
